Natlan Treasure Chest Map 2026: All Chest Locations, Hidden Puzzle Types & Efficient Primogem Farming Routes Across Six Tribes
I hit 100% exploration in Natlan about two weeks ago and the last 3% took longer than the first 60%. That's how these regions always go. The obvious chests are easy. It's the puzzle-locked ones hidden behind specific Saurian Indwelling mechanics that eat up your time.
There are 407 chests in Natlan as of Version 5.5 (March 2025). Not all of them are available immediately. Some are gated behind world quest progression, some require specific tribal reputation levels, and a handful only appear after you complete the Archon Quest. This guide covers the ones that gave me the most trouble, plus routes for the high-value chests.
The six types of hidden chests in Natlan
I started categorizing the hidden chests after realizing they follow patterns. Once you know the pattern for each type, scanning a new area takes about 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes of clueless wandering.
Phlogiston-infused rock piles are the most common hidden chest type. They look like regular terrain until you get within about 5 meters, at which point they glow faintly orange. Breaking them requires a claymore character or a plunge attack. Noelle works perfectly for this and she's free. I found 23 chests this way, mostly along cliff edges and inside caves near the Children of Echoes territory (Nanatzcayan).
Coilgrass Sigil puzzles are the orange vine bridges. Activating a Sigil usually creates a path to a floating platform or hidden ledge. The Sigil itself is always visible, but the chest it leads to often isn't. After activating a Sigil, spin your camera around before crossing. The chest is sometimes behind you, on a ledge that you can only see from the Sigil's activation point. I missed at least 5 chests because I crossed the bridge and the chest was back where I started.
Spiritway mazes are sequences of Phlogiston Spiritways that form a path through the sky. Following the path to its end usually leads to a luxurious chest on a floating island. The tricky ones branch in multiple directions. The correct path is always marked by a faint shimmer on the Spiritway surface. The dead-end branches look flat. The correct path ripples. I wish someone had told me this 100 chests ago.
Monetoo puzzles involve the little graffiti spirit creatures that appear near the Masters of the Night-Wind territory (Mictlan). They look like animated cave paintings. Following them reveals hidden chests, but some Monetoo move only when you're not looking at them, Weeping Angel style. Turn your camera away, count to three, turn back. The Monetoo will have moved. Repeat until it leads you to the chest.
Saurian challenge markers are glowing saurian head symbols on walls or rocks. Indwell the matching saurian type nearby and complete a traversal challenge, usually involving grappling, burrowing, or flying through rings. The challenges are generous with the timer. You can mess up a few times and still finish. The chest at the end is always precious or higher quality.
Buried chests require the Tepetlisaurus burrow ability. Any patch of ground with swirly markings and a slight mound is a buried chest. Press the indwell button near it and the saurian digs it up automatically. These are most common in the Scions of the Canopy territory (Huitztlan) and along the border between the Children of Echoes and Collective of Plenty (Teteocan) areas.
The route I run for Primogems
If you just want efficient Primogem farming and don't care about 100% completion, here's the route I run that yields about 120 primos in 25 minutes.
Start at the Stadium of the Sacred Flame. Head east along the cliff edge. There are 4 rock pile chests and 2 Sigil puzzles visible from the main path. Then teleport to the People of the Springs waypoint and swim south through the liquid Phlogiston river with Koholasaurus indwelling. There are 3 underwater chests and a luxurious chest on the island where the river meets the sea.
Teleport to the Scions of the Canopy main waypoint. Glide northwest toward the floating islands. Each floating island has a chest, and there are 7 islands in this cluster. Use Qucusaurus indwelling from the perch near the central island to fly between them. The wind currents between islands recharge your Phlogiston, so you won't run out mid-flight.
Finish at the Masters of the Night-Wind territory. There's a Monetoo chain near the waypoint that leads to a precious chest, and two buried chests in the clearing north of the settlement. The whole route takes about 25 minutes once you know the stops.
Chests locked behind world quests
Some chests physically don't exist until you progress specific world quest chains. The "Beneath the Scorched Earth" questline in the Children of Echoes territory unlocks an entire underground cavern system with about 30 chests. The "Windborne Warriors" questline in the Flower-Feather Clan territory unlocks the aerial Phlogiston Wind Tunnels, which give access to 12 floating platform chests.
The most frustrating one is the island east of the People of the Springs territory. You can see the chest from the shore, but the island is surrounded by an invisible barrier until you complete the "Tales of the Springs" world quest. I swam out there three times before looking it up. Don't be me.
The treasure compass and why it doesn't help much
Natlan has a treasure compass gadget from the reputation system, same as other regions. It points toward the nearest uncollected chest within a certain range. The problem is that it doesn't distinguish between surface chests and underground chests. In areas with layered caves, the compass points toward a chest that might be 3 levels above or below you, with no indication of which layer it's on.
I used the compass to confirm an area was clear, not to find chests. Manually checking each cave entrance and Saurian indwelling point was faster than following the compass signal in circles.
Chest count by tribe territory
The Children of Echoes (Nanatzcayan) has the most chests, mostly underground and in caves. Scions of the Canopy (Huitztlan) has the fewest total but the highest concentration of precious and luxurious chests, because the floating island puzzles reward better chests. The People of the Springs (Meztli) has lots of underwater chests requiring Koholasaurus. The Masters of the Night-Wind (Mictlan) chests are heavy on Monetoo and Iktomisaurus spirit-sight puzzles. The Flower-Feather Clan (Tlalocan) chests require Qucusaurus flight. The Collective of Plenty territory (Teteocan) was added in Version 5.5 and has about 40 chests, all accessible without Archon Quest completion.
The interactive map on HoYoLab is essential for cleaning up the last few percent. I resisted using it for the first 80% of exploration, which was more fun, but for the final cleanup it saved me probably 4 hours of aimless wandering.
Oh, and Pyroculi. There are 271 Pyroculi scattered across Natlan as of 5.5. Many are locked behind the same Saurian Indwelling mechanics as the chests. If you're farming chests and Pyroculi simultaneously, prioritize the Qucusaurus flight puzzles first. Those tend to cluster Pyroculi and chests together on the same floating platforms. Two birds, one saurian.
